Good Spanish Cuisine – I've been here numerous times and each time was a different experience... meaning good if not better every time. Food is def on point when it comes to Spanish meaning Spain cuisine. The Baby Lamb Chops is awesome and becareful as it leaves your teeth with a inky film that only a toothbrush and paste can cure. Wine selection ain't so bad either.
Editorial Review – Eighteen varieties of paella and a three-course prix fixe for $21.95 distinguish this Spanish restaurant in the West Village.
Average Food – I visited Cafe Espanol about two years ago and was very satisfied with my experience. But after my visit this past Friday I think it may officially be my last visit. We ordered clams in garlic sauce for appetizer which was good but from my experience this is good at every restaurant I've been to. For dinner, I ordered the seafood paella thinking it would be really authentic and tasty; but surprisingly it was bland to say the least. My boyfriend had the skirt steak which I thought tasted good. The way I see it,... read more
garden dining! – I happened upon Cafe Espanol on one spring evening during my search for a happy union of a romantic dining experience and some badly-needed comfort food. When I found out they had a garden, I requested my date and I be seated there. Even though we had no reservation, we were seated promptly at a table in the middle of their small-but-lovely garden. The seafood paella proved to be exactly the kind of comfort food I was seeking. The candle-lit garden seating made me forget that we were in the middle of the Vil... read more
Not to be confused w/Cafe Espanol on Carmine – My husband and I ate here for dinner on a Friday night. We were attended to very quickly and courteously. The atmosphere is warm and inviting - loved the murals. We ordered the Pulpo a La Gallega as an appetizer and shared a Paella Marinera as an entree. For dessert, we tried the Tartufo. We loved it all. We had dined at Cafe Espanol on Carmine and the service could have been better, the restaurant was poorly lit making it hard to read the menu, and the Paella Valenciana was too... read more
GREAT birthday dinner for group of 13! – We celebrated a birthday dinner at Cafe Espanol on a Thursday night and it was a BLAST! By calling ahead of time, they gave us the option to choose from two pre-set menus (incl. appetizer, main course, coffee, desert and unlimited Sangria/Wine/beer for 3hrs!)! Prices were very reasonable and the food was very good! The birthday girl arrived an hour late, but the waiter insisted that it was not a problem! As soon as she arrived and said her Hellos, the appetizers were on the table! The... read more
GREAT FOOD! GREAT VALUE! – This place is almost always busy, but because its so huge you'll almost always get a table. I only had to wait when I came with a large party. The Food is Great, I've been to a lot of High rated Spanish places in the city and can honestly say that Espanol's tapas are the best. Everything is very Authentic I spent time in Spain, loved their food and Espanol is the closest alternative to Castiles food. The service is sometimes slow, simply because they are often very busy. I've tried sangria in A LOT... read more
Very good, great value – Excellent value, fresh seafood and grat lobster specials. I been in the neighborhood for years and have been a customer for years. The staff is very accomodating and the Sangria is great. Great outdoor garden, great for groups or a romantic dinner for two.
Food Not Espanol – Went there for lunch yesterday and had the $10.95 3 course special. As soon as the basket of tortilla chips arrived with what seemed like an enchilada sauce (definitely not salsa), we started wondering if the restaurant served Spanish food or Mexican food. The food was not good at all, starting with the green salad, and the entrees (garlic chicken, chicken extreme) were chicken doused in oily sauce. To top it off, the sangria tasted like pepsi, since it had some carbonation. We ate outside, so we don't kno... read more
