This French-market coffee stand, established in 1862, offers a menu of dark coffee with chicory, beignets, white or chocolate milk and freshly-squeezed orange juice. Cafe Du Monde is one of the most popular and the oldest of its kind in New Orleans. You may have to wait for a table in the busy morning hours owing to its famous breakfast menu. While the coffee is certainly good, most people come for the famous, fresh-from-the-fryer beignets. They are brought to your table in such a hurry that they are still hot when you take ... read more

a must for tourists Cafe Du Monde is one place that is essential to experiencing New Orleans. The Beignets served here are always hot and delicious and can't be found many other places except New Orleans. There's always someone playing a sax or some other instrument outside and sometimes there's the man with his whole body painted silver. The location is perfect and it's great to get beignets and coffee and stroll around the french quarter.
Cafe DuMonde coasts on its reputation. Our 2/1/2009 noon day visit found the "restaurant" dirty, unkempt and overcrowded.. The table, just cleaned by the bus boy, was still sticky; the smell of garbage from nearby containers wafted over the place. Left without ordering.
When visiting New Orleans, you must stop into Cafe DuMonde. The coffee and beignets are out of this world. Seating can be cramped at times. So, if you'd rather not mess with it, get your order to go and find some place in the beautiful French Quarter to sit and enjoy. Word of advice: When you go to take a bite of your beignet, hold your breath. Don't breathe in because you'll choke on all the powdered sugar and don't breathe out because you'll cover whoever is there with you in powdered sugar. No matter what happens, savor t... read more
didn't live up to expectations – it's very crowded thanks to the historical nature, and the location is good. The staff isn't exactly friendly, but they're really busy and they try to be fast. The coffee is a special chickory flavor you either love or hate, but it's not like regular coffee. The beignets didn't live up to the hype... they get them to you warm, but they're so busy they let them overcook all the time and they get chewy. They also load about 1/2 a box of powdered sugar on every order... more than anyone could ev... read more
A Must See We love Cafe Dumonde. You have to wait for your food, but its worth it. I usually get chocolate milk along with my girls, sometimes I get Cafe au'lait. Don't let the pigeons concern you. They like the food as much as we do.
A New Orleans tradition... Everyone knows about the Cafe du Monde and their beignets. The place is always full of tourists. But it's always full of locals as well, because everything you've heard about those beignets is true! They are heavenly! You MUST stop in here on your visit to the quarter and to Jackson Square!
YUMMY The beignets are AWESOME! They are served hot out of the fryer with LOTS of powdered sugar. I always get them with a chocolate milk because the coffee is to strong for me. There is always a wait to get in but it is well worth the time standing in line for a table to get this yummy treat!
No matter how many times we have been to N.O., we always make a visit here for a tasty, hot beignet and great coffee
Negative reviews miss the point – The handful of negative reviews of the Cafe Du Monde completely miss the point of this New Orleans institution. Because it is open to the street 24 hours a day and VERY high traffic, it will not and cannot be a paragon of cleanliness and speedy, friendly customer service. The situation is too out of control for that to happen. You get a melange of all of New Orleans and everyone that goes there. Humanity is not tidy, and the Cafe reflects the truth of the humans that give it its energy. You ... read more
