Ordered and installed a Shelix head in a Jet JJ-6CSX six inch jointer. First impression was packaging: excellent, secure custom box for the cutterhead. Included a torx driver (free) for replacing cutter knives. Cutterhead fits well and is a vast improvement over the original straight knife cutterhead. If you have a planer or jointer with straight knives, get a replacement Shelix. I recommend getting bearings with the cutterhead - at least for Jet products because the bearings are difficult to remove from old cutterhead. I ow... read more

Awesome product very happy, my 15” Delta 22-790x with the Shelix head is quieter, dust collection improved and superior surfacing. I will be upgrading my jointer with confidence very soon. Thanks Byrd Tool
I put a Shelix head in my thickness planer. As a hobby woodworker, I like that I don't have to think about my planer blades. My woodworking time is limited so I like to be able to turn on a machine and use it. The carbide inserts will last a long time and I can rotate each one three times if needed to get a fresh cutting edge. Aside from the low maintenance aspect, the cutter head doesn't leave marks like a traditional planer. I can very lightly sand the surface out of the planer and be done.
So to make A long story short I had a problem with a helical cutterhead in my jointer which I purchased from grizzly tools. I contacted Byrd tool about the problem and without even a second question they offered to warrantee the cutter head out at no charge. In my opinion this is a company with a great product and an even better customer service program.
