About this business
History Established in 1924. In 1924 Benjamin T. Byrd, or "Pop" Byrd began selling his cookies to local apothecaries, delivering them in model-T trucks all around town. His son, BT Byrd, Jr., or "Cookie" Byrd as he was known opened our first retail store--The Cookie Shanty. In 1954 he developed the Benne Bit and the Benne Seed. The store is decorated so beautifully with many trees showing off a plethora of ornaments for sale. Besides their world-famous Byrd cookies, the gourmet food section contains many items of intrigue to satisfy even the most discriminating taste. Bins of samples of appetizer crackers are yours to try. For your next party or for the holiday coming up, Byrd Cookie Company is a "must."
