I made a tour of Altadena with a look at the utterly destroyed neighborhood where I experienced the 1971 San Fernando earthquake. Then went to Bulgarini for a gelato. I had my eye on their homemade gelato since way before the fires. The dark chocolate is terrific, but the (bitter) orange chocolate is sublime. Worth a detour from anywhere in SoCal! I went for gelato and wasn't disappointed. It was interesting because a few of us were standing there and there was a man working on pasta, but no one said anything to us. The three of us were trying to figure out what the different flavors were and the man didn't say anything. Finally, when one of the woman said, she's waiting purchase, the man who was working on the pasta finally came to the gelato counter. I'm guessin he was Leo the owner.
