Old school gym with relaxed, ex-bodybuilder owners. Client base skews young and male, but it’s a respectful environment for all types of people and all fitness levels. The equipment is older but well-maintained and carefully curated. The gym is also very clean; I’ve never experienced a hygiene issue. I’d say that if you know what you’re doing, are self-motivated, and live nearby, it’d be hard to do better than this gym, especially in the area. You would think a popular, high rated gym in the middle of Chicago would have a single functioning treadmill, or at least give your money back when they don’t. This place is a scam.
This was a good place to work out. If you're staying at The Robey, it's one the best hotel gyms I've ever worked out at, no question. Powerlifters might find the gym busy and limiting. The three oly deadlift pads they have are great, but they don't have very many rubber plates, and there's a big sign telling you not to drop your bars anyway. Like most gyms, they also don't have plates under 2.5 lbs (which I found hard to find). That said, this is a fantastic option if you need to get a heavy workout in while you're traveling... read more
Older but functional and practical equipment. I will say though, I would love for the sauna to be fixed. Currently it's permanently out of commission.
The gym has an old-school vibe with plenty of equipment, but the place felt cramped, and I had to wait around 20 minutes just to get on a squat rack. Some of the machines seemed outdated, and a few were out of order, which was frustrating. The staff was friendly enough, but not particularly attentive or helpful. For the price, I expected a better-maintained facility and more available equipment. Might be okay for some, but I don't think I'll be returning.
