Dr. Massel has been my doctor for almost 30 years now and I hope he never retires! He's very thorough and when I express any concerns about my health, he will listen and give me his honest opinion. I appreciate his frankness, because after all, don't you want a doctor to tell you like it is? I've never found him to be rude or uncaring in any way. If I message him in the Patient Portal, he always answers me in a timely manner and readily offers his medical advice. I wish there were more doctors like him at NorthShore.
I never write reviews but our experience was bad enough with Dr Massel that a warning is warranted. Dr. Massel has absolutely zero bedside manner and didn’t do his job, period. There is a reason he always has new patient appointments available - anyone who sees him once doesn’t see him again. His ego and lack of interpersonal skills is baffling considering he’s in a role that requires empathy, sincerity and trust. Please have your love ones stay away. My father’s doctor, that was recovering from a stroke and heart issues. He called doctors office on Monday 10/16/23 with issues of swollen feet and doesn’t feel right. They stated can’t get him in for visit till middle of November. Literally THE WORST or at least one of the worst doctors I've ever had (and I've had a lot) I went to him a week after a hospital stay because my pcp is booked way out. I am in intense pain, shaking and twitching so badly I can hardly hold something without dropping it. He asked to see me walk and I almost fell over. I could only get out of the chair with extreme difficulty (which he witnessed).
