Amazing experience. Worth every penny. We had a great guide (Jeff) and got to meet his niece who was in training. We were so lucky to have a brown bear get super close to us but I never felt unsafe. The guide was knowledgeable about the fauna and flora of the island. I learned a lot and enjoyed it. Despite being close enough to hear the bear crunching salmon bones I never felt unsafe. 10/10 experience and would tell anyone to book this tour.
I joined the Icy Strait Exclusive Wildlife and Bear Search Tour and it was amazing. Our guide is a clan leader. I was so glad to learn about his culture and his people in Hoonah. We saw two bears during the tour. We were standing on a bridge while the bears were catching fish in the stream. Even one bear got up to the bridge where we were standing, the bear just glanced at us at a distance and carried on with its business. I feel safe during the tour. Stu’s excursion was a complete delight! His insightful stories on his cultural heritage and the knowledge he shared us while seeking the bears, which we found eventually, was almost perfect!
We went on the bear search tour on 2 June 2026. We saw no bears and no Sitka deer. The tour was 4 hours long and other than a town based bald eagle it was a wild life tour bust Our guide gave us pieces of his life story and tribal information. But he was filling in 4 hours of pretty nothing to see.
