Brenneman Seed & Pet Ctr is awsome Brenneman's has been around for as long as I can remember, and i have lived in Iowa CIty of most of my life (40 years). Having read through the other reviews, I have to say that ANY dog or cat can be skittish, just as any human can. IF you want glitz and glam, go to the puppy mill only supplied chain store nearby, but you won't get any of the "guarantees" that they promise. I know first hand after hudreds of dollars in vet bills, for which they refused to pay. Nore do their "pure bred" top ... read more
2 puppies purchased. Very nice people and were very helpful. We purchased 2 puppies this last fall. The 1st was a beagle and maltese mix. Very healthy and seemed to have come from a good breeder. The 2nd, a yorkie mix, has a few issues: a little skiddish and had a bad case of ear mites, which is a trait of a puppy from a mill, according to the vet.
Best Pet store in Iowa City area I'm pretty surprised at some of the comments I've read here also. I've been buying from Brenneman's for 20 years, and wouldn't dream of buying a pet anywhere else. I've purchased 2 cats 15 years ago at about $30 each, and 2 cocker spaniels who have had the finest temperament I've ever seen in dogs. All these animals were form local breeders. Awesome place I am shocked at some of the reviews written here. If you want shiny and expensive go across the street. I purchased a dog from petland a couple of years ago, that was very ill and cost me a fortune to take care of. He was very ill, and I also became ill because of him. I previously had purchased puppies on 2 seperate occasions from Brenneman...These dogs were healthy, happy and well ajusted. I recently lost my dog to cancer and will be purchasing another dog. It's a mom and pop, not a commerical giant! I love Brenneman seed and pet center, for it's small town charm-the sales people are always nice, helpful, and educated on the products and/or pets they sell...not just reading off of a memorized list of "extras" like a chain I won't name. I have personally bought two puppies from Brenneman's and couldn't have been more pleased...and I know for a fact that they don't come from "puppy mills" It may not be as shiny, bright, and new as other places but for quality and service it ranks... read more
great store! This pet store is great! I got my puppy from there last November and he is wonderful. He is the greatest dog I could ever ask for. My puppy is a mixed breed and they were able to give me information on both breeds he is (such as size, temperment, etc.) I was more impressed with their knowledge than that of the staff at Petland. They also have some of the same popular designer breeds that Petland has, but for a much more reasonable price. Brenneman Seed and Pet Center......not a pleasant place for man nor beast! I must be honest and admit I first frequented this store because I could not believe some of the stories I had heard about the filth and dingy surroundings. I was sure the stories were exaggerated until I actually entered this store. I was never so shoked in my life when I saw how dark and drab the kennels were and how the puppies seemed to be begging for affection...it was enough to make me want to take them all home! A little crowded.... Good selection of foods for your pet. The puppies/kittens are in somewhat dirty environment. I would question if they are the result of a "puppy mill" type situation. Reasonable prices on the pets. Store is clutters and a bit dirty.
A little dirty.. The place is a little dirty, puppies are in knels that aren't always clean.. The fish tanks look gross and disgusting but they have neat fish and they do okay at my tank at home
