A friend recommended Robert Boyd to me to clean our fireplace. He was very thorough and cleaned our dirty fireplace - better than I thougt it could be! He also gave us good advice about our burning practices, how to burn more efficiently and keep the fireplace cleaner and safer. Robert filled out a report and showed me photos of the 'before' and 'after'. I was impressed with his expertise and excellent service.
AVOID BOYD!!!This man charged us \$100 for an "estimate" which he promised he would apply to any work he did on our chimney. He initially priced the work at \$150-300. After he had our money his estimates went up and he basically refused to do anything for less than \$600-700. He even refused to vacuum out the fireplace. This company used to be run by his father-in-law, who always did a good job with fair prices and *free* estimates. Now it seems that the prices float up and the work doesnt get done. This guy is not the original owner. I had recommended the original owner to many friends but this guy charged me $100.00 just to drive to my house. The deposit was to be applied to the chimney and fireplace cleaning. After I paid him the $100.00 I had trouble getting him to return calls, he refused to do the chimney or even just a fireplace cleaning. He would not send or show me the photos he took of the chimney that he said had a crack in the tile.
