I went in for a bad vertigo episode at 3am on a Tuesday and was seen straight away. Triage nurse and doctor were wonderful and gave me medication pretty quickly. I would definelty recommend this hospital, however, go to a GP if its something not urgent, as this is a small hospital, and/or go to the Nepean hospital in Penrith, if you require advance/complex assistance.
First time attending Katoomba A & E, and thought that I would be waiting hours. admittedly it was Tuesday lunchtime but I was triaged within five minutes of arriving. I was then sent for an X-ray within 15 minutes by a charming radiographer. I then saw an amazing nurse practitioner who cleaned my wound, stitched me up and gave me antibiotics. Don’t bother coming here. No one cares about you. There were 20 people working. 7 patients waiting. One hour and not one patient was taken care of. Extremely long waiting hours. No service.
I was admitted to the ED by ambulance (BTW, those paramedics are the most amazing human beings!) yesterday morning with what I suspected was a heart attack. Lots of pain. Lots of anxiety. Lots of stress. After lots of tests (ECGs, BPs, Xrays, Bloods, etc etc etc), I was finally discharged by the most lovely lady doctor who was taking care of me the whole time. Getting to see a Dr. in the emergency department take 4-5 hours. Due the the condition I was in, twice I couldn't be sitting there and had to leave without seeing a Dr. As I am living near by I suggested to come in, be first evaluated by the triage nurse, go resting at home and wait for a phone call when I reached my turn in the que regrettably, this option is not available. They simply rather see you leave without being seen by a Dr. One less patient to deal with!!!
