A colorful, hip establishment, Blue Koi is one of the best places for Asian fusion food in Kansas City. Especially good are their dumplings (pan fried or steamed), scallion biscuits with awesome sauce (a garlic-y dip that is indeed awesome), and a dish called Ants on a Stick (cellophane noodles tossed with your choice of meat or tofu). They also have many flavors of hot and bubble tea, along with a full bar. This is a great place to come with for a family event or a romantic date. Can't wait to come back! – The Taiwanese inspired dishes are magnificent and left my taste buds wanting more! Me and my date had trouble deciding what to get, so we ordered several starters, the sake sampler and sesame balls served with a sweetened plum sauce for dessert. We finished off this wonderful and tasty meal with some hot tea. My favorite starter was the fried tofu with awesome sauce. Incredible! I would order all of the same dishes again, but I really can't wait to try other items off the menu. The ambiance is very... read more
Amazing food, service, and casual but romantic ambiance – This is "our place" for me and my wife. As the proposal took place here, so does every anniversary, most birthdays and special occasions, and just nights when we want to FEEL special. The pot-roast on noodles is my favorite meal in the Kansas City area. However, nearly every entree is great. I personally recommend always getting the entree "on noodles." The dumplings are fantastic either pan fried or traditional. Important - Every meal MUST begin with a scallion biscu... read more
Best by far! – I've had almost everything on the menu and been here several times and the service has been great, the food is always excellent.
Taste bud heaven, except the bubble teas. – Pros - This place has really good dumplings. You can really get the fresh taste of the ingredients inside the dumplings if you order them boiled and just dip in a little siracha chili mixed with soy sauce. I ordered a seafood noodle soup with bean thread noodles instead of rice noodles. The broth was very delicious and not too oily. There was also a lot of spinach, which I love. Cons - The bubble teas are not really good though. The tapioca balls were kinda hard inside, and most of... read more
Dumpling bar – The dumplings are great (pan-seared, of course). In fact, I usually get two servings of dumplings rather than an entree. A very original and intriguing Asian cuisine menu, but if you're expecting American-style Chinese you'll be disappointed.
One of my favorites! – Must try the dumplings. If you really like dumplings, the dumpling noodle soup is a great deal. The pot roast is to die for. Where else can you go where the owner knows everyone's name? It's often a wait on Fri/Sat. peak times.
