There are 2 methods used to extract metal from their ores. Pyrometallurgy is the use of high temperature to convert ore into raw metals. Hydrometallurgy uses aqueous chemistry to convert ore into metals.

Although steel recycling reached 88 percent in 2012, special industry sectors beat that figure. For instance, the automotive industry did a bit better. Care to guess the recycling rate for automotive scrap? That would be 92.5 percent.

Did you know that steel makes your car safer? You may already know about the value of a steel reinforced frame, but were you aware that the latches on most automobile doors are made of steel. It's a safety feature designed to keep the doors closed in a crash.

Choosing between 300 series and 400 series stainless steel should be done carefully. 300 series stainless steel has nickel added and is not magnetic. The additive in 400 series stainless is chromium, and it is magnetic.

Did you know that steel is one of the most environmentally friendly materials you can use? Almost 69% of all the steel in North America is recycled every year. That's more than the recycling rate of paper, aluminum, plastic, and glass combined.
