I feel so lucky have found the Berkeley YMCA. The classes are superb, the desk staff are helpful, and the value can't be beat. Plus it's a non profit, so you're supporting a healthier community. If you're willing to spend a lot more, looking for late hours, need a parking lot, or want to avoid teenagers in the afternoon-- I'd consider other options. But this Y is large, well-equipped, and has a great community feel.
Hours are absolutely atrocious. Bay Area ymcas need to go back to the pre-pandemic hours. You can't use covid as an excuse anymore. Closing the entire gym at 5pm on weekends is unacceptable. I'll be canceling my membership and going somewhere else soon.
