Wide variety of books, some even historic and rare; love the super friendly staff and the resident cat!! Every stay-cation visit to the Quarter includes a stop at Beckham's and I always leave with at least 4 books!
I've been going to Beckam's since I was in high school (the mid-to-late 90s), and it's still my absolute favorite used bookstore in the world, hands down. I moved away from New Orleans a long time ago, but no trip home is ever complete without at least a few hours spent finding wonderful books at Beckam's.
This store was also a highlight to me on my recent, and alas, too brief visit to Orleans. Great selection of Civil War and Southern History books. The owner was extremely helpful, the bookstore cat quite friendly, and I picked up two books - one from the collection of the famed Southern newsman and father of Cy Vance's spokesman during the Iranian Hostage Crisis - Hodding Carter on Sherman's March to the Sea, and the other about Steamboats on Mississippi which made great reading while sailing with the American Queen up to Me... read more
