Bay Area Retrofit is just what I needed to address an old home's cripple-walled crawlspace and its deficiencies... The public YouTube content is impeccable as it allows homeowners of all DIY skill levels to understand the reasoning behind the standard cookie-cutter seismic reinforcement solutions as well as their shortcomings and gaps. Their website is also chock full of content. Really thankful for Howard Cook's generosity to help the Bay Area and the world....

Howard is highly knowledgable and ETHICAL. These days, I think the later is hard to find, but Howard has maintained honest business practices. It would have benefited him financially to just sell me a product, but he didn't do that! He answered my questions honestly, sharing his years of expertise, even though it meant I probably didn't need to proceed with a retrofit. Even if you are getting other quotes, I strongly recommend talking to Howard before making a decision about who to hire and what to do to retrofit your home.
We chose Bay Area Retrofit because we watched the videos and got the impression that they did a better job than other companies. We knew that we would have to wait longer and were patient. It also cost more, but we wanted a job well done. It took 4.5 months from the estimate to get the work done. Howard helped me with questions about a retrofit repair to my house structure. In the end, I needed the services of an engineer to which he provided a referral. I'd highly recommend starting any questions you have with them. They are clearly experts in their field with comprehensive explanations and a long history of sharing their experience through their (very helpful) website. Five star experience. Helpful and fast responses. What a gem of a resource for Bay Area homeowners.
