Wonderful place! Google Maps will take you to the back entrance, but look RIGHT and youll see a sign for 'Kuranda CBD' and a bridge taking you up to the front entrance. Alternatively just approach from Coondoo st / Kuranda village. Every bat has an amazing story, we could have spent hours learning. (Donate as much as you can, every penny will help feed the bats and other critters that end up here.)
This was an absolute hi-light of our time in Cairns, and to be honest I’d say it’s worth the trip to Kuranda for Batreach alone. Pete clearly has a passion for these cute little things and he makes a wonderful host, we could have chatted to him all day. The centre is only open on certain days and you must pre-arrange but this was incredibly easily organised via email. Pete was also able to advise how to find the centre as google maps gets it wrong I cannot recommend a visit highly enough, but please remember to donate. The c... read more
One of the best stops of our trip, made it absolutely worth it to go to Kuranda. you have to call them and ask if there’s someone that has time to let you have a little tour. There are only two people working there and they are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, so make sure to give them a quick call, they’re super friendly and eager to spread awareness on these amazing creatures Always remember this place is not a zoo, but a rescue&rehabilitation centre, you can donate to make life easier for them. One of the highlights on our trip to Australia! Pete was informative and you can really see the bond and passion that he has for these bats. The bats are simply adorable. Bonus python that was caught the night before. As noted by others, but should be reiterated: they are by appointment only from Tuesday to Thursday. Plan in advance. They do not have an admission fee and are donations only.
One of the highlights of our trip to Australia! Pete gave us a tour and we learned a heck of a lot about bats. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about his work. The bats were super active when we visited! It was an honour being able to see these cute creatures up close. Batreach is open Tue-Thu but only by appointment so reach out to them beforehand. We were able to visit by coordinating directly with Pete. They don’t charge an admission fee so please donate and donate generously! Batreach is entirely self-funde... read more
