I visited Bascom Lodge on Oct. 8, 2026 with 3 friends. We spent several hours biking to the summit from Cheshire and were exhausted when we parked our bikes and walked into Bascom Lodge to eat our packed lunches. We sat in the beautiful porch - there were only 2 or 3 people there as it was after 1:30pm. We no sooner took out our lunches when a woman who works at Bascom Lodge ordered us to leave - no outside food is allowed in the facility. To use the porch we need to buy their food in the cafe. Comfortable private room and delicious home-cooked dinner in a beautiful location. I stayed here one night after hiking 10 miles up to the summit, then hiking back down the next day. The vibe is definitely idiosyncratic and memorable, very non-corporate feeling and I’d say charmingly curmudgeonly but personal service by the artistic owners. The showers and restrooms are shared, but very clean and well-maintained. I enjoyed this stay — very unique place.

DCR should try to end lease with incredibly rude, unfriendly operators. Food is prepared without gloves, who wants food poisoning on the trail. No thanks!
