I visited the Emergency Department at University Hospital Geelong while pregnant and had to wait over 5 hours to be seen. I understand that cases are prioritised based on severity, but as a pregnant patient experiencing concerning symptoms, the long wait was extremely stressful and worrying. Better communication and reassurance for expecting mothers would make a big difference. We recently welcomed our baby at Barwon Health Geelong, and we are beyond grateful for the incredible care we received. From the midwives and nurses to the doctors and support staff, every single person made our journey so comforting and special. The compassion, professionalism, and genuine kindness shown to us during such an emotional and important time in our lives meant more than words can express. There have been some amazing and kind staff that I have spoken to, but one staff member in particular "Kirsty" is absolutely rude on the phone. Strongly recommend she be removed from this service. I have spoken to her on 2-3 separate occasions to discuss my appointment timings and is very rude and impatient on the phone. Expecting mums call for various reasons and it's fair to expect staff members to be kind and patient with them. Barwon Health Maternity Services should not allow this type of behaviour by their staff.
I can’t thank all the staff in the postnatal ward enough! They were all so supportive and helpful! Above all I want to thank Anna who was on the afternoon shift! She was the most caring, helpful and supportive person. She made our whole experience so special and memorable, it felt like I had an aunty there with me the way she would come and check in and have a cuddle with our baby.
