About this business

At Barbounia, Chef Michael Cressotti carefully prepares an assortment of Greek dishes. Pop in at the bar, go for a cocktail or one of the Greek wines and order some fresh bread with a yummy dip to go with it. You can also relax at the cozy pillowed banquette and let your eyes wander before your order arrives. The preparations, especially the appetizers, are so tasty that you could keep ordering them and never make it to the main course! No matter what you order, do try the baked cheese prepared at the restaurant which is pur... read more

Overpriced, small portions, not authentic – Being a Greek working in Manhattan, I decided to visit Barbounia with a few co-workers. At first glance, the environment looked very posh and trendy. I saw quite a few people there, but very little food on the tables. This is very uncharacteristic of your typical REAL Greek restaurant in which the tables are full of hearty portions of appetizers, salads, breads, etc. Our waiter had trouble speaking up and answering our questions. Looking at the menu, the prices seemed typical of a ... read more

Meh. Wasn't that great. – The ambiance, cute decor and deliciously comfortable seating really did outweigh the food. My biggest problem with this place was it never seemed to try very hard in terms of flavor, plating... anything else you'd expect from a relatively expensive establishment. My boyfriend ordered a $27 lambchop dish that was tiny, undercooked and with potatoes that tasted like the chef had boiled them, chopped them and that was it. I had a red snapper, which is supposed to be one of their best dishes, but it als... read more

I went to Barbounia last night with my husband and parents. The hostess was very pleasant and our waiter was phenomonal! He was friendly and knowledgeable and made the whole dinner a fun experience. The flatbread and dipping spreads are amazing- the tzatziki and hummos are so delicious, as is the bread right out of the oven. I highly recommend for a nice and unique dinner choice.

So great - I signed up to get the word out!! A mediterranean Heaven! – Truly the most amazing restuarant I have ever been to! I walked past it on my way to eat Mexican with my boyfriend but our plans quickly changed once we peeked inside. We did go on a Sunday so it was relatively quiet and we had the most attentive, kind waiter called Sergio (like a Mediterranean Hank Azaria), who really stood out exceptionally. It has been so long since I have had a meal where suddenly remember that cooking is an art and you savour every m... read more

Good Food & Decor, Scary Hostess – When my friend and I walked in, the hostess totally checked me up and down, finally staring at my handbag. Her eyes were on me the entire time I walked toward her, but when I reached her, she turned her head away! I had to stand there for a few seconds until I finally got her ?attention.? When I told her my last name which is a very simple 4-letter surname, she said ?What?? with a twisted face as if it were the most bizarre name in the entire world. I finally said to her, ?Is there a proble... read more

Very nice experience! – I was there last Thursday with a group of friends and had a wonderful time from beginning to end! The entire staff was friendly and accommodating, including letting us know when our table was going to be ready to pulling over an additional table when two unexpected joiners came (what can i say, they where out-of-towners). The food was excellent and the table service was perfect. I usually try to stay away from big Park Avenue restaurants, but some how they managed to win me over. Thanks again to the M... read more

Great food, great service – I dined at Barbounia with 4 of my friends last night and it was fantastic. We originally went there because of restaurant week, but the normal menu had so many wonderful options that decided not to stick to the restaurant week menu. We ended up sharing a number of appetizers and entrees. The souvlaki was very tasty and tender, the entree prawns were outstanding and the mouzzaka was great. The only dish that was disappointing was the calamari - it was very ordinary. The wait staff were very attenti... read more
