About this business

At Barbounia, Chef Michael Cressotti carefully prepares an assortment of Greek dishes. Pop in at the bar, go for a cocktail or one of the Greek wines and order some fresh bread with a yummy dip to go with it. You can also relax at the cozy pillowed banquette and let your eyes wander before your order arrives. The preparations, especially the appetizers, are so tasty that you could keep ordering them and never make it to the main course! No matter what you order, do try the baked cheese prepared at the restaurant which is pur... read more

Far from Greek – After the Greek parade my family and I walked so out of our way to try this place that we heard good things about. We arrived at the restaurant about 330, around a quarter to 4, the waiter comes to the table and says FYI we are not serving dinner and you must choose from the left side of the menu (which were appetizers). We were starving and dissapointed but we were there so we order a bunch of appetizers. They bring out the appetizers and they are tiny., Typical Greek places do not serve tiny helpings. The ... read more

Will go to great lengths to make you happy – Everyone else has commented on their food and its excellence, so I will spare readers the repetitive compliments. I specifically asked for a reservation time that would get me seated no later than 10 minutes of walking in through the door. for this i was recommended the 930 slot for 6 people. I booked 6 days in advance. Be it great weather, or just slow patrons, we didn't get seated till 50 minutes later. However, both William, and Oz (the sommelier) went to great lengths to make ... read more

Great food, bad service – Ok- I've dined here many times and recommended this restaurant to countless friends. In the last few months there's been one consistent reaction "great food, but what's thee deal with the service?" It is so disappointing. The busboys staff is working hard but the wait staff is invisible. The women in particular are free of personality. The hostess sat my friend and I in between 2 occupied tables with minimal room for privacy event though we had a reservation and there was plenty of availability. The... read more

Raw Chicken and Poor Service – I took a client to Babounia for lunch one afternoon and was extremely embarassed. First the waiter took our order but walked away in such a rush that we didn't have the opportunity to give him our drink order. We had to flag down a busboy to get our waiter's attention. Finally our Diet Coke's arrived and 10 seconds later our meals arrived. Both of us ordered salads with chicken and it turned out both dishes displayed RAW CHICKEN. We didn't notice until my client took a good-sized bite! Our wait... read more

Best Authentic Seafood – Came for a birthday party last week. Our waiter recommended we try the whole fish from the grill. This was the best seafood I've had in a LONG time. The branzino was so mild, and it was filleted right at the table, so you could see all the fresh herbs that were stuffed in the fish for grilling. It's served with a small side of lemon olive oil, which made for such a healthy, simple flavor. Very nice, lofty interior, great affordable wine. The pumpkin cake was out of this world. Funny bartender named S... read more

They need to pick up their game to charge these prices – Attentive wait staff but no sense of timing whatsoever. Appetizers came so fast that it was frankly uncomfortable. I thought we must have received someone else's food. It's not a good sign when the apps beat the wine to the table. We asked the waitress for some help in choosing the wine but she deferred to the manager. The manager seemed way out of his element in looking over his own wine list. He made a recommendation based on what Italian style of wine we liked (we w... read more

good fish, but avoid the souvlaki – overall an average to slightly above average experience. the service definitely felt rushed - we were prepared to spend some time drinking between courses, but the waiter couldn't seem to space anything out appropriately - each course was right on top of each other. they don't seem to have any sort of service system, which is strange for a restaurant at this price point. It seemed more like eating at a Friday's than somewhere on park avenue. food wise - spanikopta was above average, nothin... read more

Nice – I went for my birthday a few days ago, and it's a nice place. The ambiance is old, but easy enough to be around. We sat on the pillows which were nice. First off we felt rushed. The restuarant on a Monday wasn't even packed, but we had to keep asking for some extra time each time they came around to ask our drink orders or our appetizers. You figure you would be able to sit talk a bit and not 2 minutes later asked what we wanted to drink. That was the pace the whole night. They wanted to take our appetizers before we ... read more

Great Food & "scenery"! – Me & 6 girlfriends went to Barbounia on friday night and had the best time! it was 8 o'clock and we didn't have a reservation but were quickly sat at the "communal table". I ordered a cocktail called the "Pandora" with Bulldog gin, lemongrass, sage, and litchi foam. AMAZING! We ordered a whole bunch of appetizers (or "mezze" as they're called) to share. It was so much fun passing the plates around and sharing with good friends. We all loved the hummus and spreads with fresh baked flatbread. Stuffed ... read more
