About this business

At Barbounia, Chef Michael Cressotti carefully prepares an assortment of Greek dishes. Pop in at the bar, go for a cocktail or one of the Greek wines and order some fresh bread with a yummy dip to go with it. You can also relax at the cozy pillowed banquette and let your eyes wander before your order arrives. The preparations, especially the appetizers, are so tasty that you could keep ordering them and never make it to the main course! No matter what you order, do try the baked cheese prepared at the restaurant which is pur... read more

Great food, service and DRINKS! – Such a pretty place, the dining room is lit almost entirely by candle light, the staff was most friendly and helpful. A MUST try is the lamb shank, the meat just fell off the bone! The shrimp terra cotta (although not in a terra cotta dish) was the most yummy garlicy shrimp dish EVER! Went back for brunch and got blissfully happy on the $12 ALL YOU CAN DRINK champagne cocktails! It's true, all you can drink, we put it to the test. The French Toast was so thick and delicious, the egg dish Sha... read more

Super delicious food and a great atmosphere. The grilled baby lamb chops is very delicious. The Barbounia was very well prepared. The portions are not very big, but the flavor definitely makes up for it! The wine list is also very good. Definitely worth a try if you're looking for a good experience.

food was not somewhat greek – The ambiance was definitely the draw-in for me. Went to this place with a friend during restaurant week for our birthdays. Very disappointing. Yes, the setting is nice but the tables were SO close together - literally 2 inches apart. Made the whole experience a real downer. On top of that, the food was just so-so. Had the tuna carpaccio, duck breast and yogurt dessert and was not impressed. If it wasn't restaurant week and I was paying full price, I'd be a little more than upset.

Great taste, Friendly place – Top Restaurant. So far this is the only restaurant my friend cleaned her plate on every course. Restaurant Week menu was everything fabulous. Oysters with caviar, Tuna Carpaccio- YUMMY. Duck was my favorite, schwarma tender. Panna Cotta dessert was better than Gotham- more taste, the kanefeh delicious. Friendly relaxed service, hostess welcoming, servers attentive, all diners smiling. They certainly have a way with flavors. Greek Mojito rocked. We arrived with a stroller and they were helpful. don't bother – I've never posted a message like this in my life, but I feel compelled to say that the guy who acts as maitre d is enough to entirely ruin the visit. two occasions, 18 months apart, same disrespectful treatment and condescending attitude. one can only hope for a little more perspective (humility) from the managers of the other mediocre tourist joints on park avenue. without getting into details, if you're a ny'er who has options, spare yourself the pomposity and walk 100 yards down on 20th to Kellari Taverna, ... read more

Beautiful place, disappointing food – I went on a double date at this restaurant and although the ambiance and decor is amazing, the food was a big disappointment. I am greek so I know what greek food is supposed to taste like and I was not pleased with my meal at all. Everything else was fine including the service etc. If you are looking for a relaxing place to go for drinks, then this is the place for you but if you are looking for a great mediterranean meal, you may be disappointed.

Pleasantly Surprised – After reading many mixed reviews, I was very hesitant to make a reservation to celebrate my birthday at Barbounia. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that the ambience was great, the service was attentive but not pushy, and the food was fantastic. The Ambrosia cocktail is the perfect way to go for a summer evening. I would absolutely recommend!

Party it on up – Friday night I enjoyed the 4 F's; Food, Friends, Fun and Full Service at my new Favorite spot Barbounia. Not having reservation we had to wait for 20 or so minutes for a table but it was well worth the wait. My three friends and I went to the bar and had the very creative house cocktails hats off to the creator of such delicious creations of intoxication. The hostess came and got us as soon as the table was ready. Our server Sharron was fabulous, an amazing sense of humor we felt right at home. She was atten... read more
