The first Barbecue Pit family restaurant was opened on Dec. 16, 1947. It was located in the Maryland Hotel on 6th Ave. in downtown San Diego. It was opened by Joe & Lila Browning and Ed & Mella Jenson. Lila and Mella were sisters. Barbecue Pit is very good Yummy. They serve Hofbrau style, and the food is hot and delicious. It is a little dive place in a strip mall but worth stopping at, large portions for a reasonable price.

Unfortunately that?s about where the ?good barbeque? experience ends. It was a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was not crowded at all (should have been a clue). My wife ordered Ham with fries; I had the daily special ? pulled pork sandwich with fries and beans. My wife?s ham was completely flavorless and her fries were woefully under cook... read more
