Weird service lately. The host (when seating isn't left for the servers or bartenders to manage) is fairly aloof and unwelcoming. The food is good but overpriced. Apparently, due to the drought, servers are no longer allowed to offer diners water. Diners have to request a glass of water with their meals. I guess we'll bring our own water bottles next time, but I don't see the difference between us filling our bottles at home and requesting a glass at the restaurant. What has happened to Bar Virgile? It was one of our favorite places to go to in Durham Downtown for a great cocktail. We had the worst service when we visited last Saturday. We were first ignored by the bartender and “told” that we “should” get a seated table and not at the bar even though we were only there for a drink. Seems like the bar is now only for a certain clientele who “look” a certain way?? Not much of a review leaver, but while I was eating I said I was definitely leaving one. Went on a Saturday night, and got a table for 2 immediately even though they were packed. Hostess and waiter were very kind, and the food and drinks were great! Best burger me and my fiancée have had in a long time, and she said the fries were the best she’s ever had. Perfect lighting with a small candle on the table set the mood and vibe perfectly, along with the great music playlist they had playing. All in all a 10/10
We got in just before 10 pm so didnt expect a vibrant food scene and totally okay that half of the small plates were unavailable, but didnt feel welcome at all, drink orders took too long to come, server was rude and ignored our polite hand raises, we walked to bar which wasnt crowded but still bartender avoided eye contact. Stopped in Friday for dinner and some drinks. Atmosphere was chill and the bartender Drew was great! Knowledgeable and made all the drinks to perfection. Service was exceptional and the food was delicious! Asked if he could make a Final Word cocktail which is a twist for a chartreuse cocktail of the named Last Word cocktail. Cocktail was perfect! I had the Braised Pork risotto which was delicious! I definitely will be back, finally found my bar for Durham!
