Plugging in my straightener cut the power in our room on a day it was 35 degrees. Even the air conditioner outside the room stopped. Tried to call the front desk 5 times, they did not answer. Place is old so there is no elevator which is fine but that’s why we have phones. So I walk down the three sets of stairs to find the girl at the front desk on the phone… she says she needs to call the maintenance guy to see where he is for him to come and fix it. Booked for a Saturday night and paid $350 for this room which is kind of insane?? No storage, not clean and quite literally the bare minimum. There was a portable AC in the room which worked fine, but would have been nice if it had been turned on ahead of arrival knowing we were coming and it was 35° outside. The charm of a really historic building is lost when it's not maintained and is just old. The staff at the bar didn't know anything about the history which really didn't help. I'm disappointed and wouldn't recommend
We stayed at Bala Bay Inn while in Bala for a concert at The Kee to Bala, and I have to give a huge shoutout to Jess and Sarah at the bar. They went above and beyond to make us feel welcome—genuinely friendly, great conversation, and amazing hospitality all around. Even when my husband got a little too chatty after the show (sorry again 😅), they handled it with patience and good humour, all while trying to close up for the night. THE WORST!!! Gave 1-Star only because of the location! All the 5-star reviews are COMPLETE B.S.!! We paid $350 for one night. Prison cells are furnished nicer than this. It's literally 4 walls, a bed and a fan. Oh, and a "workshop" light hanging from a hook on the ceiling!! Yes, a workshop light. Like the one you'd hook on your truck hood. The only light in the room.
