If you are careless enough to allow him entry into your home, I would strongly urge you to take inventory of everything valuable beforehand. Call me cynical, but someone who shoots their uncle, ties up the mother of his child in a bush, and tries to use a hammer to extort payment from contractors....probably isn't the most trustworthy and reliable contractor....
