About this business

AWE offers multi-day kayaking tours and kayak rentals for Johnstone Strait, Blackfish Sound, and the Broughton Archipelago from our base in Telegraph Cove, BC. Paddle with humpback whales, dolphins, sea lions, bald eagles and bears. Northern Vancouver Island is one of the best places in the world for kayaking with orcas. All our trips are fully nomadic, so we go where the wildlife and conditions are best. Our small group tours practice no-trace camping on the many remote islands of the archipelago. I recently joined the 4-day Basecamp tour with At The Water’s Edge Adventures and I couldn’t have been happier. The camp is located in the most stunning spot—right on the edge of the Johnstone Strait and close to the Michael Biggs Ecological Reserve. It’s the perfect place to see orcas, and we were lucky enough to spot them up close one day—an absolutely magical moment I’ll never forget. The camp itself was beautiful, clean, and cozy. We went out on kayak tours every day, and although I had no prior kayaking experience, I fe... read more

The guides were kind and went above and beyond to meet my food restrictions- DF and Soy. The food was delicious and healthy with options for everyone. The guides gave clear and easy to follow directions. My only suggestion would be to have an email sent a week beforehand with the packing list and instructions on were to go. Paddling was beautiful and we even saw a humpback whale!

Amazing knowledgeable guides.More delicious food than is humanly possible to eat with care to accommodate several food allergies. An experience to be had. Highly recommend.

At The Water’s Edge (operating as Butterfly Tours in Haida Gwaii) were fantastic. If you are considering a trip to Haida Gwaii, you already know that Gwaii Hanas is a sacred and beautiful place—Butterfly/AWE are an excellent choice to bring you there! First off, the team behind the scenes were so helpful over email and phone as I prepared for the trip, and set me at ease as a solo female traveler. The owner Wesley was incredibly kind and helped me late the night before departure with a logistical issue. The places we visited... read more
