What an awful experience! My aunt was recently hospitalized at St Joseph and the experience couldn’t possibly be worse! It seems like it’s ran by clowns, except they are far from being funny. The doctors seemed absolutely incompetent, told me that my aunt had history of 3 different cancers, when in fact she had none of them! I even asked if they were looking at the right chart! I came here for a routine mammogram. The on-site services were smooth and professional, but the administrative and support functions left a lot to be desired. Staff seemed poorly trained, seemingly relying on scripts, and the overall system felt very disorganized. After my mammogram, I received a letter stating that my records had been sent to my primary care physician. This was confusing, as the referral came from my OB/GYN, not my PCP. I was on a long weekend birthday vacation with my adult daughter when unfortunately my life-long auto-immune disease decided to flare. I had to go by ambulance from our hotel room to the ER. We were told our best chance of being seen quickly was a drop off at St. Joe’s. Turns out, that was the only bit of fortune I had that weekend. Staff was excellent but the billing system was not forthcoming or truthful. Day of visit my "itemized list of items or services that are reasonably expected to be furnished with" per the bill was paid on site. I received a new bill months later that had updated the estimated costs by over 150% and tripling my payment, also neglecting to rerun the new bill through my insurance as previous deductibles had been met already. I was admitted inpatient last week in psych unit. There was a severe lack of transparency. I never even received unit rules without asking. There was no disclosure of rights or policy without asking several nurses. Cynthia, Alex, and Barb were excellent, insightful, and extremely supportive during a hard time. I wish their great work was enough to offset my unhappiness with care.
