I recently completed the Head start puppy training classes conducted by Richard Polsky, PhD. and without reservation I would recommend this program to any owner who has a puppy to train. Unlike other classes Ive looked into, Dr. Polskys program was the only one I could find that offered an individual session prior to entry into the class. This was very beneficial because he gave me and my family 'homework' to do before we started the class. During the individual session the behavioral problems we were having with our black lab were addressed, such as mouthing and biting, jumping up on people, and house training. The instructions given to us to curtail these problems were clear and very beneficial. Another feature of Dr. Polsky puppy training program is that it is quite flexible in terms of when you attend the sessions. We knew that we could make consecutive Saturdays, and this program allows an owner to miss a session and still not fall behind with the training program. For a very reasonable price of \$349 we received an individual session followed by 8 group classes. This is the best value I could find for a puppy training program in the Los Angeles area. Class size was reasonable, usually about 10 dogs. During the class sessions socialization exercises were conducted which were useful in getting our puppy accustomed to interacting with people he usually does not encounter. My eight-year-old daughter found this part of the class session the most fun. As a person, I found Dr. Polsky very professional, and respectful and attentive to my needs and the needs of other owners in the class. He was always available for telephone consultation between the weekly class sessions, or e-mail. Attending these classes was a wonderful and beneficial experience for my family and my dog, and I would definitely recommend this program to other owners looking for group training classes.
