I took the kayak instruction with this organization last year and it was great! An inexpensive weekend with very knowledgeable instructors. They also organize weekend canoe & kayak trips nearly each weekend near NYC, so you can practice what you learned. They also provide low-cost boat rentals, but you'll need a car to transport the boats. Trips include both flatwater kayaking and whitewater.

This is a great organization. The kayak instruction was first-rate and they have follow-up trips almost every weekend so that you can practice what you learned. The AMC has its own fleet of rental boats, so you don't need to have your own (but you will need a car to transport it).

Excellent club to learn how to canoe or kayak. They have very patient instructors on their training sessions. Plenty of free paddling trips throughout the summer to practice what you learned. If you don't have your own boat, they have their own fleet of rental boats but you'll need a car to pick them up and transport them to the trip.

Awesome club with great, friendly group! A great way to see our local lakes, rivers and seashore. They have flatwater trips and instruction for beginners and whitewater trips for more experienced paddlers. Trips are offered every weekend, including some for kids.
