On the skids / Big expensive waste. Here's why: – WINE: By the glass or wine flight offerings: When's the last time you paid $9 a glass for a bottle that sells for $12.49 at Costco? That's nearly 75% of the bottle price for a single glass. Very limited choices by the glass. FOOD: Short ribs with mashed potatoes (potatoes were barely warm). Creme brulee: caramilzed top was unbreakable and custard was cold (left over? / about as distinctive as a Jello pudding snack - of which it reminded me; sorry, but it's true). SERVICE: Eve... read more

Not impressed by Amber – My husband and I ate lunch at Amber, May 29th 2007. We started with calamari. This is a dish that we always use for a test at a new restaurant that we are reviewing. The dish was very inconsistent. Some of the pieces were OK, others were very rubbery. I would not order the calamari again. My husband had the pork salad. It was good. The sesame oil was not overpowering and the granny smith apples added a bit of tartness and crunch that did keep the dish interesting. I had the chicken sandwich. The brea... read more

Watch out for overcharges, small portion, rush service – Our party of 6 spent New Year Eve 2006 at Amber Bistro. The fixed menu was limited. The portion was small. We did not find any tuna in the tuna tata, and the soup was cold with a few specks of crab on top. There were a total of 4 string beans as veggies on the dinner plate. The service was rushed, the waitress could not remember who ordered what. They kept trying to remove our plates while we were still chewing. We were seated at 6:15pm, and we were done by 7:30pm. And... read more

Highly recommend Amber – Went to Amber with a group of 8 people and had a wonderful evening. The service was excellent. The host was so friendly and made us feel like the most important table in the place. Absolutely loved short ribs with chocolate cabernet sauce and creamy mashed potatoes. The curry salmon baked in a claypot was incredible! It was layered with spicy flavors and there was lots of extra sauce (love that!). Dark chocolate mousse was divine and sinful and apple crisp with cranberries was yummy with vanilla ice ... read more

Executive Chef Jerry Gomez blends Japanese, Thai and other Asian flavors at this hip dining destination. – In Short This sophisticated restaurant is a hot spot for business luncheons and romantic dinners. Stylish patrons sip specialty cocktails at the bustling bar or dine in the cozy, 50-seat dining room. Starters include the crispy calamari, fresh from Monterey Bay and served with a piquant cilantro yogurt sauce. For a main, try the meaty stir-fried prawns and scallops in lemony Thai basil sauce, or the rack of lamb--pan-se... read more

Filet of FAT – I'd been to Amber before many times for drinks with the girls. This time I'm entertaining an out-of-town friend who is a self-proclaimed "foodie". We have a couple wines, pretty nice. Server checks on us FIVE times while we're deciding on our starters. It's a Tuesday night so it's quiet. I have the Crab Tower. Tasty. More "checking" on us by the server. Annoying. Still quiet. I decide on Filet Mignon, which, in my opinion, is hard to fail unless you're at Sizzler. The potatoes, mashed, are more like soup. Very... read more
