Tom of All Tech Appliance Service spent considerable time on the phone diagnosing issues with two appliances (a fridge and dishwasher present when we bought the house.) He explained it was highly likely the leaky dishwasher was incorrectly installed, but a service call to confirm would be expensive. I personally saw the seller (not a professional) installing the dishwasher, which suggested Tom was right. So clearly the best option was to buy a new one.
