His retirement will leave a significant void at Brigham Hospital, one that will be deeply felt by colleagues, patients, and the entire medical community.
Dr. Al-Mefty removed a huge benign brain tumor in my brain 11 years ago and saved my normal life. I cannot thank him enough and I always look forward to seeing him every other year. He is always positive and confident that has put me at ease since I met him.
I saw Dr. Al-Mefty in 2009 to operate on a meningioma at the skull wrapped around one of my carotid arteries. The surgery was successful and followed by radiation treatment. 15 years later, I am doing fine. I appreciate everything he did for me and would recommend him to anyone.
I was told my paralysis was possibly permanent and had low survival chances based on where the blood clot in my brain was located. Dr. Al-Mefty saved my life!!! That (3rd) brain surgery was 30 years ago. I have not had 1 seizure or 1 complication since. Today, 30 years later, I sat behind Dr. Al-Mefty on a plane. I realized it was him on the jet bridge and he remembered specifics of my case, and we took a selfie together😀 I owe this man my life🙏
