Even though I was very nervous about getting a sew in, it was always a protective style I wanted to try. Once I arrived at the salon, I didn't know what to expect. I was early for my appointment, but another stylist was kind and let me come inside to wait. While I waited on Akila, the other hair stylist was friendly and offered me refreshments. I’ve been seeing Akila for about a year. As an Asian with very straight, strong hair, getting locs is incredibly difficult — but Akila is basically a researcher when it comes to hair. She kept experimenting with different techniques, analyzing what works and what doesn’t, until she cracked the code for my hair type. A year in, my locs are nicely set and looking amazing. Highly recommend, especially if you have a tricky hair texture.
