I did this tour as part of a cruise ship excursion. A medium bus ride got us to the site where we could view the mining equipment and old building remains on the outside, followed by a trip slightly inside the mine with a guide who explained to us the various tools and processed used to extract the gold ore. he also gave history on the mine and what had happened to it. I went as an excursion with Holland America and it was great! The reviews were kinda across the board but I'm so glad I went. I learned so much about Hard Rock Mining and being from the East Coast it was so interesting. We learned about the process and the building (which no longer stands) Mr. Gary demonstrated some of the machines and talked about his life as a Hard Rock Miner. Great mine tour with demonstrations of machinery and drills by an actual miner! All the staff/guides were super friendly, nice and full of information about this huge old abandoned mine. Plus you get to try your hand at panning for gold in the WARMED water, fantastic fun! The little store there is perfect also! Recommend for anyone that likes mines or gold!
