Adventure Treks is an amazing opportunity for kids. My son, although generally very active, saw his own physical improvement over the course of the trip, met some inspiring leaders and new friends, and laughed a lot! As a first time backpacker, the Pacific Northwest 2 trip opened his eyes to the wonders of immersing in nature. (We live in a city without mountains nearby). My son has participated in 2 AT experiences (Wyoming and the Ultimate Northwest). He has learned so much from his experiences that I wanted to share my thoughts for those considering AT versus other adventure camps. It is more than an average summer camp. Adventure Treks provides kids with a safe and friendly environment where they can explore their limits, making new friends and learning very important skills while having incredible adventures and connecting among themselves and with instructors that are great role models.
AT is a spectacular opportunity for youth to experience outdoor adventures in a safe and fun way. Not only are they out of doors and making incredible memories that are unlike any other, but they are learning about and practicing group dynamics (i.e., communication, empathy, emotional support techniques, etc.) as well as practical skills (cooking, cleaning, camp craft, and hard outdoor skills like backpacking and kayaking).
