I called to schedule a first check-up for our newborn, a requirement for discharge from the delivery hospital. The lady on the phone asked about insurance, I mentioned it was under the mother's but didn't have the details handy, offering to pay cash for the visit instead to secure an appointment. The lady claimed this would be insurance fraud. I looked it up, paying cash is legal and not fraud, and I'm pretty sure it's illegal to refuse cash payments.
