The reach of Ade Jembe Fola is more than impressive! In more than 30 years with the drum, I've never witnessed another individual so consistently positive, focused, driven and successful at bringing African Dancing and Drumming to an diverse inclusive Community.
I took many drum lessons with Kasumu. He has the ability to teach different beats to multiple students at once. He would then bring us all together to play different beats to the same rhythm by the end of class. The first rhythm I learned from him was Kakilambe. It took me a few tries to catch the beat but I can still play it today due to his teaching method.
My son n daughter is in ade jembe fola class. Dance is for my daughter n drumming is apart of my son’s life. My son loves drumming so much he started drumming on tables n garbage cans at home. So we got him a drum to practice on instead of the actual house. Not only does my son enjoy it so does my grandson. A baby at 9 months mimicked his uncle and loved it when his uncle drummed with him. This program has been wonderful, it has been very inclusive of all students. I have 2 students who are parts of the STARS program who have been welcomed and embraced within this program at City Honors School. These students are always excited and eager to share what they are doing and look forward to their performances to show off how hard they have been working. Keep up the good work!
Gethsemane Full Gospel Church had the pleasure of showcasing Ade Jembe Fola Dance and Drum at our Black His-Story program last month and they were phenomenal.
