A standout AAA Members’ favorite destination is the delightful coastal village of Carmel-by-the-Sea. Here, you can stroll along cobblestone streets to peek at perfectly preserved fairytale cottages and pop into numerous art galleries filled with local artists’ craft. Or, you can while away the day on the soft sandy beach, watching the sky work its magic—like this serene moment captured on Instagram by @brukdahl. Times like these illustrate just how incredibly interconnected we are - not unlike the elements of this authentic Japanese garden in Portland. Commissioned in 1958 when Portland became a sister city of Sapporo, Japan, the Portland Japanese Garden is considered one of the best foreign examples of a Japanese garden in the world. Strolling along West coast beaches in winter might be chilly, but it sure does reward the brave with gorgeous views. AAA Member @abonds25 captured this shot of rippling waves—resembling layers of cake frosting—at Greyhound Rock Beach in Santa Cruz. Get up close and personal with the central California coast on a road trip along Highway 1, from Santa Cruz to Big Sur.
