I saw paint bubbling on the walls of my chimney and knew i had a water issue. My friend, a certified inspector, said i needed a new crown and drip, and some patching, or re-pointing of a few areas where moss was growing (and some of the motar was loose or gone. The first company i called, told me I needed a new stainless steel liner (per current building code). Between the liner, parts, permits, etc. it was a significant amount of money. So i got a 2nd quote and A step in time, told me what my inspector said, and quoted me... read more

Obvious bait and switch. Call A Step in Time for a simple inspection and cleaning. The woman in the office told me there was a special going on for ******* (includes inspection and cleaning.) After the inspection the technician told be that everything looked good but it needed a deep cleaning - ******* and flashing needed to be recaulked - ******** For a total of ***** I asked why the cleaning was so expensive and he told me because they had to use multiple sizes of wire brushes. Really? I spoke with three other chimney swee... read more

Here at A Step In Time, we are closely monitoring the spread of coronavirus in our area. Our technicians are all required to stay home if they are at all ill. If you are concerned about the spread of germs in your home, all of our technicians should have respirators on their trucks and will happily wear them at all times in your home if requested. We also need your help. Our technicians travel to 2-3 homes a day. This could potentially expose them to a lot of illness that they could then spread. If anyone in your home is sic... read more

I scheduled a chimney cleaning with this company three weeks in advance. The time they said I needed to be home was a window between 12 p.m. and 2 pm. I put in for the afternoon off work the next day. The evening before that cleaning day they called and left a message asking me if I could change my window from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as they would be in my neighborhood early. I did not get this message until Monday morning the day of the appointment. Even at that I could not get time off early as it needs to be scheduled with my c... read more

We had Step in Time do both roof construction and roofing work in 2017. The quality of the work has been an issue since they started. I have no problem with crews that are not native-English speakers, but I do have issues with subcontracting workers who are not qualified to do the work the company claims to be to able to competently accomplish. My first clue was when the workers sheetrocked over all of our electrical outlets. My second clue was when the rubber roof they put on another section of our house had a substantial ... read more

Horrible experience with this company!! Bait and switch tactics. Will NEVER use again and will warn others not to, as well.

Business response:

Dear Mrs. ****** I am very sorry that you had a poor experience with our company. We desperately tried to please you. We came to your home and found you had a rusted chase cover on a multi-flue chimney of a 3-story house and leaking chimney caps and storm collars. We reported damage that we saw and could not see the condition of your liner from inside because it is hidden. No chimney sweep could. I left you a brochure that talks about prefabricated chimneys have a 20 year warranty and your units are 37 years old. After we in... read more

This company is awful it is New Year's Day and my husband and I called to see if someone would be able to inspect and sweep our chimney since our furnace went out and we have two kids. As we're on the phone with the representative he kept cutting us off then my husbands phone died as we were talking to him. Once his phone turned back on 2mins later we see we've received a text message hwfrom the representative harassing us about hanging up and even identified himself as the owner of the company all via text message. I wouldn... read more

I have dealt with this company on several occasions due to their great marketing versus their competitors. However, marketing seems to be the only thing they're good at. I have dealt with multiple people in their office and it seems every one of them is incompetent. 2 names I can recall in particular are **** and ******. Every time I call to schedule an appointment, I seem to get them the most and they seem to never know what they are talking about. One occasion, ****** scheduled me on the wrong day I had requested and the t... read more
