Was only in NYC for three nights, A-1 was worth visiting twice. For some reason was overcharged on my first purchase, but was made up for with some easy haggling second time around. Could have easily spent another afternoon digging.
I spent a week trying to visit as many record stores in New York as possible- A1 records was definately the best. Found some great deals in the extensive, uncatogrised used selection underneath the main racking- most records found there are $3-$5!
Expensive. Too many tourists maybe? I don't know...
