After comparing prices with several other major rental companies, I found 4WD Hire Cairns offered the best value for my recent trip. Be careful what you are booking - We booked and paid for a 4wd camper on the condition we could cancel for a credit at short notice as my wife had been ill. Unfortunately, we did have to cancel. We were told we would need to provide a medical certificate to get a credit which we did. After presenting this we were told the money had been paid to another organization but they said they had no record of this. In the end we were left with nothing.

We hired a 4WD camper for two weeks in the Cape York National Parks. The vehicle provided did the job really well (great condition and reliable). There were some issues with the advice provided to us because the company assumes that we would have access to powered sites in a caravan park to recharge and fill up the water. There are actually no such places in the parks. The water tank on the vehicle doesn’t have a gauge so it’s hard to work out how long it would last. Best service I have had this entire holiday, better than I have experienced from any other car hire. We needed a car last minute - they helped with very fair cost, we got the dates wrong - they helped, we got the pickup location wrong - they helped (be careful to read your confirmation email). By comparison, the airport hire companies were either not interested or tried to take advantage of us. Much cheaper and better service to deal with these guys. Car was in great condition, could not fault it.
