世界五大文庫に数えられる大規模な図書館ですが、ハーバードIDを所有するか、所有者との帯同でなければ立ち入ることはできません。 タイタニック号の事故で夫と息子を失ったワイドナー夫人が寄付した図書館で、寄付の条件にハーバード大学の入学の際に水泳の試験を義務付けたと同僚に聞きました（とっくに廃止）。 中の一部は荘厳な美術館のようなつくりとなっており、故人の部屋やコレクションを再現した場所を見学できます。 読書・勉強スペースは天井が広く優雅ですが、私語厳禁なため厳かな雰囲気が流れます。時期によっては学生で混雑しており、静かながらも活気にあふれます。 観光地としては正面の階段と入り口の写真を撮る程度ですが、タイミングがいいとハーバード大学の校旗が飾られ、それだけでも一見の価値ありです。
