I am extremely disappointed with the service provided by the Wheeler and Associates MUD #98. For the last two months I have been waiting for them to apply the correct exemption amount. Every time I call them for an update, the front desk staff states "we just received the new exemption value and we are processing it", which is the same message I have been getting for the last 2 months! @Catherine Wheeler, if you cannot run your department efficiently, then resign.
Calling for 2 weeks. No one answers nor do they return calls ever! Paid taxes on time got delinquent letter. In addition to that they changed the amount of original tax due. Inaccurate and they stonewall to prevent accountability. Site says they close at 4pm. But when are they open? Never apparently.
Unless people actively act for change and vote more accordingly we will see the current increase of ad valorem taxes and more inept firms getting retained not on merit to collect fees by local tax jurisdictions. The payment process is incredulous and processing fees are now 1%, 2%, and etc which sometimes equate to more than $50. The penalties are severe. Anyway as it stands with the current pattern by the next few years I predict our tax bills are just going to increase and fruits of our labor decrease.
Paying MUD tax online with e-check/ACH used to be a flat $2 fee but for tax year 2024 is now a fee of 1% of your tax bill! After calling, they said this is the fee of the new payment processor they switched to. Like they're using A1 Check Cashers or something. Then they have an entire paragraph announcement on their website discouraging the use of your bank's online bill pay service (for which there's no fee). One star, but what do they care? The water district is their customer, not YOU.
Wheeler hide's behind their Attorney, Young and Brooks, who are only there to send out letters and post a notice on your door on a Thursday, when the Mud Tax office is closed on Fridays! The Attorney's office tell you to deal this Wheeler directly which gets you absolutely no where, 9 months later!! Why has Wheeler been allowed to handle the MUD taxes for Houston and Harris County this long! It is time for change and better treatment of their customers! Plus NOT listed on the BBB! Wonder why!!
