The area was once a hotbed of glassmaking (esp by German immigrants). The institution was started by a rich guy who wanted to showcase glass and pottery making in a historical and contemporary context. The museum is second only to the Corning Museum of Glass in NY. There are live demonstrations of glass and pottery making. The people who work there are passionate about the art and very friendly. Plenty of items to buy too; all made on-site. Thank you for an incredible experience making paperweights with Tiff! For our friend’s 70th birthday four of us celebrated by making paperweights. Tiff was outstanding! Her knowledge, expertise, patience, and artistic insight and talent was above and beyond and made the experience so enjoyable.
