If you pay your property taxes by mail, & someone commits a federal crime by stealing & altering your check, don't expect Wells Fargo to refund you after you were defrauded. That "up to $250,000 FDIC insured bla bla bla" sticker on their windows is just for show. The same goes for if a company owes you money & sends it to the wrong (a closed) Wells Fargo account. Went in with my nephew with his retirement check from Vanguard. He scribbled out his signature on the back because he made a mistake. The check is written off Wellsfargo. So we went to Wellsfargo to deposit it or cash it. The two women there immediately said they can’t accept it. I told them it’s from Wellsfargo and can’t they just verify the check.
