Absolutely amazing experience!! Highly recommended. Spent 9 hours at their beautiful home/yard in April, hammering and grinding away in the work shop. Played with the dog, scratched the cats, held the snakes and pet the bunnies. I was in a party of 4 with my family and made a paring knife. Gordon is a great teacher, we had so much fun.
Making a knife from raw steel and pieces of wood with Gordon was so cool. He instructs well and lets you have at it, only stepping in when you need or request it. And at the end of the day you have this awesome object of function and beauty (with a few endearing flaws of course). I highly recommend.
My girlfriend and I did the couples retreat and all day knife forging. We had a blast, the tiny home was adorable and comfortable, beautiful view from the deck, and we could hear the waterfall from the driveway. The knife forging was a tiring, but a very rewarding experience that we're already wanting to do again.
Phenomenal. My wife got me a forging experience for my birthday so we spent all day with Gordon doing just that. He's a wealth of knowledge and cool to hang out with. I highly recommend Vonhelmick Knife Co if you have an interest in metallurgy, forging, Japanese knives and of course, cooking with amazing cutlery!
This was an amazing experience from start to finish. Well thought out, well constructed schedule, and very comfortable class, while still being well within limits. And the knife is beautiful at the end.
