Its a really cool, small, piece of history in a beautiful area of the prairies. It would be a benefit if the area was maintained a bit more so we can see the rocks better (surrounded in tall grass) Im happy to see for as long as they have been here they havnt been vandalized. The nearby brushes have a LOT of cloth tied to the trees adjacent to the historical site. I have no idea what they mean. At first I thought it was a homeless encampment but its too far from any community to be that.
This place will be interesting to you if you are interested in archaeology or native culture. It is an out of the way location and is sacred space for many native people. It consists of two stones that were carved anciently to resemble the backbone and ribcage of a bison thus the name ribstones. It is located near the town of Viking, AB. Thus the name, Viking.It is one of several ribstones in Alberta but the only one still in it's original location.
This is a aboriginal spiritual site. It's my version of church and it is meaningful to me. There are no amenities so go prepared. I typically stay 15 to 30 minutes.

Just a small stop to check out if you’re driving close by. Super cool and rare ceremonial site with carved stones and the view is beautiful.
