Trop is the perfect place for college kids to start out. They get the true "college experience" of living in dorms, while going SBCC. The staff is amazing. Very attentive, caring and professional. The RAs are there to help the kids with any issues that come up, as well as provide fun activities regularly to help the kids make friends, bond and relieve stress. They also have free tutoring and plenty of good advice. The grounds are safe-ppl on staff to insure the safety of residents, locks on exterior doors at night, etc. The cafeteria is convenient, but I hear the food isn't great. Your kids will have plenty of food though. Beautiful tropical grounds. The dorms are old and rundown, but some d

Tropicana Gardens provides the best possible living opportunity for freshman students. The staff works avidly to get residents involved in the IV community. Whether it be throwing pot decorating programs or whale watching trips or trips to 6 flags, residents are given every opportunity to make friends and have an amazing freshman year experience. Choosing to live at Trop will provide you with the possible freshman year experience!

There's a lot of work to be done when housing, feeding and maintaining a building with a large group of diverse college students. And Tropicana Gardens definitely puts in that work. For the parents who need their minds eased, the building itself locks at night and only those who live at Gardens have access, while the Tropicana's ResLife team -the RA's who are also college students- keep your students safe by sitting outside in the cold every day to ensure guests don't enter without a resident claiming responsibility for them and contacting the RA on duty when incidents happen. They are also there as enforcers of quiet hours. Residents do complain about quiet hours being unreasonable however,...  more>>

Tropicana Gardens is the perfect place to meet new people and have fun! Many different programs are planned and offered each month by the RAs so that the residents get a chance to meet their fellow neighbors and build a community. All staff members at Tropicana Gardens work really hard to ensure a great college experience for all the residents. The food is really good and now there are plenty of options for vegans/vegetarians. Here at Tropicana Gardens residents' opinion matter. There is an organization called TSO (Tropicana Student Organization) in which the students can talk with staff members about any concerns they have about the cafeteria or other concerns. Both residents and staff memb...  more>>

I was a freshman living at the UCSB dorms when I heard about Tropicana. I was living in a triple the size of a hallway, with no living room, constantly escaping to my brothers apartment for some space. When I found out about Trop, I was so stoked about having a living room, big screen, and a decent sized room for once. When I got to Trop I was surprised by the real sense of community. Th RAs work really hard to put on programs, and make you feel like you matter especially when you're a new kid going to a brand new school, miles away from home. The impact they have here is huge and I can't say how many times they've helped me out. The place itself is really nice too, they have a big cafe, a p...  more>>

Tropicana gardens has disgusting food that has made me sick of various occasions and also recently I’ve heard about dangerous robberies and they also have no air conditioning so for anyone coming to trop I hope you enjoy prison styled food and dust
