I'm a travel nurse with a rental property. The first time I filed with them, I talked to the owner and he gave me good advice. But the next time I filed with them, I was talking to another CPA which only had little knowledge when it comes to investment property. Since they already knew during the pre-questionnaire that I had an investment property, they should have assigned me to a CPA versed in investment properties.
My tax preparer caused me to lose a $647 state refund because he didn't know about a new tax law in Missouri. You literally have ONE job, sir! It wasn't even complicated. Just file an extension. After many emails back and forth with an assistant who gave me misinformation, I finally got an email from the Operations Manager, I believe, who apologized but blamed me for not knowing about the new law.
